Research on the lives of people with variations in sex characteristics / intersex individuals in Belgium

Why this research?

People with variations in sex characteristics/intersex individuals form a diverse and often invisible group in our society. There is still little reliable information about their experiences and needs in Belgium. With this research, we aim to change that. We want to better understand:

  • How people with variations in sex characteristics/intersex individuals experience their lives in Belgium.

  • What challenges they encounter, such as discrimination, stigmatization, or negative experiences with medical care.

  • What they need to feel well and to participate fully in society.

How can people participate?

  • Online questionnaire – completely anonymous and easy to complete.

  • In-depth interview – a personal conversation to share one’s own story.

  • Anonymous written story – for those who prefer writing to speaking.

Participation is limited to individuals over the age of 18. Parents of minors with variations in sex development/intersex children can also participate in the interview. As a token of appreciation, we offer a small compensation.
